In the Beginning Was Love

In the beginning was Love. Love was with God, and Love was God, for God is Love. Everything came into being through Love, and nothing came into being without her. All things were created through Love and for Love. Love is before all things, and in her all things are held together.

When Love began her creation of the heavens and the earth, the earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the surface of the deep. But the Breath of Love swept over the waters. She said, “Let there be Light.” And Light was. And Love saw the Light, that it was good, and she separated the Light from the darkness.

For Love is Light, and in her there is no darkness at all. In Love is Life, and her Life is the Light for all people. Love’s Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish her. Hers is the true Light, which enlightens everyone.

Love was in the world, and although the world came into being through her, the world didn’t recognize her. Love came to her own, and her own people rejected her. But to those who did accept her, those who entrusted themselves to the name of Love, she gave power to live as the children of Love. And Love became flesh and lived among us. And we saw Love’s glory, the glory as of an only child, full of grace and truth.

And we, as children of Love, must love with more than words and speech. We must love in truth and action. By this we will know that we belong in the realm of truth, and in this we may reassure ourselves in the sight of Love. Let us love one another, for all Love is of God, and all who love are children of God and know God. For God is Love, and all who live in Love live in God, and God lives in them.

Love is patient. Love is kind. Love is not jealous, boastful, arrogant, or rude. Love does not insist on her own way. She is not easily provoked. She keeps no record of complaints. Love is grieved at injustice, and she rejoices when the truth comes to light. There is nothing Love cannot face. There is no limit to her faithfulness, her hope, her endurance. Love never fails. Love does no wrong to anyone. Love fully satisfies every requirement. Love is all that we need.
