Judges 7: Too Many Men

Judges 7: Too Many Men 2012-10-30T09:46:22-04:00

The Lord said to Gideon, “You have too many men. I cannot deliver Midian into their hands, or Israel would boast against me, ‘My own strength has saved me.’” -Judges 7:2

Gideon obeyed God and brought together available men to form an army. His goal was to have as many warriors as possible to defeat their enemies.

But God had something else in mind.

Rather than thirty thousand soldiers, God chose three hundred men. Why? In God’s words, “You have too many men. I cannot deliver Midian into their hands, or Israel would boast against me, ‘My own strength has saved me.’”

God wanted to be recognized as the power behind the victory, not Gideon or his soldiers.

Wonder why God may be limiting your resources for a task? Maybe the reason is the same as Gideon’s. If you accomplished your goal with the usual means, you (and others) could easily claim credit for the success. But if your success comes in an unlikely way from impossible means, who gets the glory? God. He is the only explanation.

Don’t worry whether you have enough resources. Only focus on whether you are doing God’s will God’s way.
