Jonathan said to his young armor-bearer, “Come, let’s go over to the outpost of those uncircumcised men. Perhaps the Lord will act in our behalf. Nothing can hinder the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few.” -1 Samuel 14:6
It was a rough time in Israel. Only two men had swords. One was King Saul. The other was his son Jonathan. Jonathan decided to take action with his. Why? In his words, “Perhaps the Lord will act in our behalf. Nothing can hinder the Lord from saving, whether by many or by few.”
His confidence was in God, not his own strength. That day, God gave Jonathan a miraculous victory. In contrast with his father who feared popular opinion and chose to disobey God’s commands, Jonathan displayed faith and lived what he believed.
This stark contrast provides a clear choice for us today. Will we stand on the sidelines and do nothing, or will we join the battle to follow God’s calling for our lives, even when the option seems impossible? The difference is the difference between Saul and Jonathan. We can be known as a person who trusts in our own ways or in God’s ways, but not both.
Just remember, nothing can stop the Lord from saving.
