2 Chronicles 31: Devoted to the Law of the Lord

2 Chronicles 31: Devoted to the Law of the Lord July 16, 2013

He ordered the people living in Jerusalem to give the portion due the priests and Levites so they could devote themselves to the Law of the Lord. -2 Chronicles 31:4

It has always been God’s intention that his people be devoted to the law of the Lord. In the time of Moses, the law was revealed. Then a tribe of men called Levites were selected to serve as those in charge of worship, with some of these men serving as priests who interpreted the law for others.

By the time of 2 Chronicles 31, many seasons had passed in which the law had been neglected and the people had suffered as a result, The king commanded that the priests be financially supported so they could once again devote themselves to the law to help lead the nation. When the priests did, God’s blessing rested upon the people.

Man modern applications could be suggested based on this passage, but one clear in my reflection is the principle of devotion to God’s revelation. When a person is devoted to God’s Word, God honors this attitude. The most blessed people I have met are often those most devoted to Scripture.

Much of my motivation to write out the Bible by hand is to better known God’s Word and its Author. As I do, he changes my life and I can sense his blessing upon me. Is there anything greater to which I can devote my life? Be devoted to the law of the Lord.
