Exodus 35: Created to Be Creative

³⁰ Then Moses said to the Israelites, “See, the Lord has chosen Bezalel son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah, ³¹ and he has filled him with the Spirit of God, with wisdom, with understanding, with knowledge and with all kinds of skills — ³² to make artistic designs for work in gold, silver and bronze, ³³ to cut and set stones, to work in wood and to engage in all kinds of artistic crafts. ³⁴ And he has given both him and Oholiab son of Ahisamak, of the tribe of Dan, the ability to teach others. -Exodus 35:30-34

The arts. Does the Bible stress their importance? Views range all over the board, but a look at Exodus 35 reveals God’s love for beauty and artistic expression.

In the construction of the tabernacle, God mentioned two men he had uniquely gifted to design the work. Further, he gave them the ability to teach others. Both were considered of great importance in these verses.

God values the arts. He also values the ability to teach art to others. This could include design, writing, painting, music, sculpture, dance, filmmaking, and much more. The point is that the same creativity God used to design the universe exists to some degree in each of our lives.

We were created to be creative. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.
