I introduced the definition of verb today. We focused on those verbs that convey action. After having the boys repeat the definition several times, I read a list of verbs aloud while they acted them out. I picked verbs I knew they would have fun with: Fight. Kick. Laugh. Burp.
After nearly twenty verbs, I had them sit down and asked them to name some more. Zach shouted, “Wrestle!” and they began their version of a Greco-Roman throw-down.
When I calmly, yet firmly asked them to sit down… (hey, you can’t blame a girl for dreaming.)
When I frustratingly, and through gritted teeth, growled at them to sit down, Ezra looked at me with genuine surprise. “But Mom, we were just trying to give you some good entertainment.”
Well now that’s a novel interpretation. Maybe I should just go with it. It would make so many things easier, yes?
Instead of thinking that my sons conspire to ruin my visions of peaceful, productive homeschool days, I could chose to believe that they just love to entertain me with their melodramas, crime stories, soap opera tragedies, gladiator movies, and scatalogical comedies. Not bad, right?
I feel better already.
