Directing your passion

Directing your passion September 29, 2013

Imagine yourself on a wonderfully beautiful day with nothing to do. You want so badly to take advantage of the day and yet you cannot think of any good ways to enjoy it. Feeling passion without direction is frustrating.

You are full of life. Your passion for life gives you the energy to accomplish whatever you wish to accomplish. Yet it’s important that it be intentionally directed and focused toward positive purpose. Without direction and control, passion can be destructive.

Not only is your passion a valuable and useful force, it is also a considerable responsibility. Positive, successful living consists of wise and responsible use of the passion that life holds. Connecting with your passion brings great energy to your efforts, and it is vital that the energy be funneled in a purposeful, positive, creative direction. That takes real and substantial effort. It takes a desire to learn from mistakes, a willingness to plan for the future, a commitment to discipline, and a respect for the value of integrity.

Your passions will naturally be directed along the lines of your actions. So you can focus the considerable energy of your passions by exercising control over your actions. The actions you take can give your passions a positive, creative outlet. Your thoughts also serve to control and direct the energy of your passion. Think and speak in positive terms, and your passion will be directed in positive, creative ways.

It is no secret that the people most likely to get what they want from life are those who set clear, specific goals for themselves and then work out detailed, realistic plans for achieving those goals. Many people have found that just the simple act of putting their goals in writing can have an almost magical effect, often moving them significantly toward those goals without any additional conscious effort. This phenomenon solidly illustrates the power of passion when it has positive direction. Even without conscious effort, your passion gets things done.

Passion leverages your actions. It gives them added power and effectiveness. So the efforts you make to direct your passion will bring magnified results.

Your passion cannot be deceived. It follows your authentic, genuine thoughts and actions, not the ones you take half-heartedly or superficially. The positive power of your passion is called forth by living with integrity. It is most reliably directed by living authentically and purposefully.
