1. You’re in control
You are in control of your thoughts and your actions. That makes you effective in whatever you set out to achieve. Every thought is a result of a choice you have made. Every action you take is under your control. You are in command of a creative, productive and effective masterpiece of engineering – YOU.
What if there was someone, sincerely acting in your best interest, who had a remote control device that guided all your actions? Similar to the remote control for a television or DVD player, the device could switch between different “channels” of activity, and increase or decrease the “volume” of energy that you put forth.
Just imagine how effective you could be if, at just the right time, the button was pushed for “focused, disciplined work” or “creative problem solving” or “aerobic exercise” or “compassion” or “gratitude.” If someone who really knew what they were doing could control your actions, there would be no limit to what you could achieve.
In fact, there is someone who can do that. That someone is you. And the guidance you give to every single one of your thoughts and your actions is much more powerful and compelling than any “remote control” could ever be. Your control over your own life is so much a part of you that you probably don’t even think about it. Yet it is there. You are under your complete control, and with that you can accomplish countless great things.
2. You’re able to transcend the limitations
You understand that the limitations you face are not there to stop you, but rather to challenge and ultimately to support you. Far from being an excuse for defeat, or a reason to give up, your limitations provide a frame of reference, something to push against, a way to grow.
You’ve seen that everything you have ever accomplished has been done in spite of your limitations. You’ve proven, over and over again, that you can overcome your own unique challenges. You can achieve great things because you refuse to let your limitations stand in the way of your possibilities.
3. You’ve done it before
You can do it because you have done it before. Just think of all the times you’ve made a choice and followed through with that choice. Consider all the times you have done exactly what you set out to do. It happens almost every moment of every day, from the smallest, most trivial things all the way up to the big, important decisions. The fact is, you are continually doing whatever you decide to do, and you regularly accomplish what you set out to accomplish. You are highly effective at getting results. The life you are currently living is the result of the choices and decisions you have made in the past. Now perhaps some of those decisions, in retrospect, were not so great. Yet even by that realization you learn and grow. So what if you’ve misled yourself in the past? The point is, you’ve gotten yourself here and you can get yourself to anywhere else you wish to be. You can most certainly do it. You have plenty of experience and a lifetime of results to prove it.
4. You can imagine it
If you can imagine it, you can accomplish it. Whatever you can visualize yourself doing, having, or becoming is indeed possible. If it were not possible, how could you even consider it? Every achievement begins with thought and belief. As soon as you have the thought, you are on your way. Your thoughts control your actions, and you are very effective at reaching whatever destination you continually think about. You can do it because you can conceive of it. Let your vision lead the way as you take the actions necessary for achieving whatever you choose.
5. You’re focused
Sure, there are plenty of distractions and you often let them divert your attention. But you never have to let them keep you from what is truly important. You’re quite capable of remaining focused on the things to which you are fully committed. When there is something you choose to do that is vitally important to you, you’re able to keep yourself focused on the goal until it is reached. Your focus comes from your passion and your purpose. Whenever you decide to follow your purpose, there is nothing that can stop you. No distraction is strong enough to make you stray from the path. You know this is true. You know there have been times in your life when you’ve been totally focused on attaining some objective. So you know you’re capable of laser-sharp focus. When it is important enough, when the goal is meaningful enough, it will happen. You will make it happen. You will persevere until it comes about. You can do it because you are absolutely focused.
