Connect to passion

Connect to passion 2015-03-13T20:29:51-06:00

Passion can infuse everything you do with added zest and energy. For this to happen, you must make a conscious connection between the everyday activities of your life and the passion that is available to power your actions. Grocery shopping can be a bothersome chore if there is no passion in it. Yet when you connect it with the passion you have to provide your family with healthy, nutritious food it becomes an important and fulfilling mission. Similarly, things such as waking up at 5:30 a.m. to get ready for work, working out at the gym, making cold sales calls, learning a difficult new skill and countless other activities can all be greatly enhanced when they’re connected in a personally meaningful way to your passion.

Often we tell ourselves that we must do something just because it has to be done, and we leave it at that. Such thinking positions the task in our minds as a chore. Yet for everything that must be done, there is a very good and compelling reason why it must be done, a reason that ultimately can be connected with passion. When you establish a strong enough connection, you can be genuinely passionate about anything you need to get done. That’s a truth that highly successful people know and use every day. Success is not a matter of having more passion so much as it is a matter of understanding and connecting to that passion in very specific and useful ways.

There are real and meaningful reasons behind everything you do. Passion for doing those things comes from understanding and appreciating those reasons. It can be quite annoying to be stuck in traffic on the freeway. It can be disgusting to have to clean the toilet. Yet there’s a reason why you do these things. At some level you have made the choices that have led you to everything you do. Whatever the activity, your attitude and effectiveness are greatly enhanced when you bring a positive passion to it. Complaining and feeling sorry for yourself will not make your situation any better, and may very well make it worse. So it is much more fruitful to keep yourself aware of the connection between the things you must do and the things that are truly important to you.

Make the effort to see and appreciate the connection between your actions and your passions. It will serve to plug your efforts into the positive energy source of your passion, and make those efforts vastly more effective.
