Do we know what people are reading and what their questions are?

Friday, August 7, 2020, 9:50 am

Today I read Exodus 30-32 and Acts 8, NRSV. I’m going down [on my Life Journal calendar list to another area where I’m reading] because I’ve had so many other studies and responsibilities, and because we haven’t been doing our summer Readings in Luke.

Exodus 30-32

  • I wonder how long it takes Israel to digress into sin while Moses is receiving the 10 Commandments etched in stone, “written with the finger of God.” (Ex 31.18f)
  • Do they know that God has a book, tradition says a Book of Life, and that He will say, “Whoever sins against me I will blot out of my book”? (Ex 32.33)

Acts 8

  • “Then” right in the middle of an Apostolic revival, God tells Philip to leave, “So” he obeys. (Acts 8.26-27)
  • “Now” he sees a court official from Queen Candace of Ethiopia.  “Then” the Holy Spirit tells Philip to approach.  “So” Philip does so, and the official is reading Isaiah out loud. (Acts 8.27-29)
  • I would have been afraid to approach Candace’s chariot and charioteer from Ethiopia, but if Philip had not done so, he would not have heard that God-Fearer reading Isaiah.

Do we know what people are reading and what their questions are?

Do we allow the Spirit to instruct us to approach people we would usually not approach?

Meet Jared

I’m thankful to Christ Community Church in the Central Neighborhood and their Associate Pastor for giving me a Life Journal when I preached for them, and for explaining the way this devotional guide works.  Click one of the links in this paragraph to learn more.

I preached for them out of Hebrews, and one of the leaders said I had hit another homerun with the sermon!  I wound up making it into a preaching series entitled:

Today in Hebrews

This particular post is performing well in a number of my “news outlets.”

In my Archives, it’s around six posts before my two Independence Day posts, one with a unique picture to see of Lady Liberty in a fog.
