Notes & Crowd Favs

I’ve been encouraged to make playlists when I’ve been emotional, “for about a minute” {as they say}. Music is one way I have always got in touch with myself. In general, if I can stereotype, I haven’t met too many guys who are constantly in tune with their emotional side.

That being said, when I do things like this, it is more of a soul-ish level journal entry with far reaching ramifications. There’s a lot connected to any exercise or practice like this. It’s nearly a spiritual discipline, usually sparked by the coffeeshop.

Knowing that not all songs are love songs, I determined to pick songs to listen to that were not necessarily happy and lovey-dovey. I picked songs that reflected my feelings that day especially. I first published this list on my account over on Twitter

Tuesday, July 11, 2023

For this article/playlist I have only embedded 3 videos which were crowd favs. They crossed a specific threshold of Views on my Twitter profile.

The real theme here is difficult to elucidate without being completely transparent. It’s a grey area. The general questions are:

When will I ever see a certain person again?

What will it be like when I do see the person again?

Will our relationship be what I have hoped it would be?

Am I placing too much stock in hope, a specific hope that could be completely unfounded?

I’ve been accused of being a DJ because at times like this, the songs come to mind in uninterrupted succession. This list was posted spontaneously on Twitter in real-time. As I listened to each song, the next one would surface from some of the inner recesses of my soul.

Enjoy the playlist if you please, and if you do…
remember me and the unnamed someone…
prayers appreciated in this season.

Matthew Perryman Jones
Feels Like Letting Go

MPJ is simply an outstanding artist. He’s one of the most underrated artists of our time. His vocals can crossover between genres easily, although he would probably be classified as indie|alternative. Sometimes I read up on specific songs so I can gather more info about the deeper meanings. MPJ is a poet par excellence.

John Mayer | I Guess I Just Feel Like

Some have developed opinions about John Mayer.
“He’s disgusting.”
“He’s become a bit of a womanizer.”
I don’t know about any of that, but John Mayer’s music and lyrics have resonated with me since before 2010. He’s an amazing guitarist. I have personally thought of him as someone who is in the same league as Eric Clapton or Phil Keaggy. Plus he has a versatile voice, good for a number of genres.
