Love in the Key of Delight 44

Love in the Key of Delight 44 June 8, 2007

We finish the Song of Solomon today. The Song ends with the woman summoning her man to the bed:

Make haste, my beloved,
and be like a gazelle
or a young stag
upon the mountains of spices! (8:14)
The “mountains of spices” are either her — or perhaps only her breasts (cf. 4:6, 13-14). As he asked to hear her voice, she asks him to come to bed.
She may well be telling him to abandon the allure of the Solomonic court with all the women and come to her, to her alone.
The Song doesn’t have a finale; in essence, love continues. They shall remain playfully and delightfully in love.
