Youth Ministers and Parents, a suggestion

Youth Ministers and Parents, a suggestion

A number of you have told me that students read what they are asked to read, unless a book for them goes viral. But about the same number have told me that one of the dimensions of ministry most enjoyed is seeing responsible and innovative suggestions by students when they begin to explore what it means to be missional and compassionate and just.

So let me urge you to consider what other youth ministers have told me: The Jesus Creed for Students: Loving God, Loving Others somehow is getting high school students to see the needs of others and to want to act to meet those needs. We’ve been following tweets for a month or so and it’s fun to read what others are saying about this book.

Why not get a group of students together for the month of July or August (or even think of this for the Fall) and read this book? Or, if you are using this book what are you seeing?

Put differently now, What happens when missional actions are the responsibility of the students to discover instead of the suggestion of the leader? What do students hear and see and think needs to be done?

Then watch what happens when students begin to say the Jesus Creed and to see how it works into the face of their relationships with others, and then explore with those students what they can do to live out the Jesus Creed in the ordinary dimensions of life.
