Orchard Grove Community Church

Kris and I spent a lovely 24 hours recently with the good folks at Walled Lake, MI where I spoke at Orchard Grove Community Church.  It was our second opportunity to be with this church.

Highlights as always were the people, including Gina and Karl with whom we shared a meal on Saturday night.  Thanks also to Madison for being our host on Sunday morning.

Orchard Grove has a vibrant ministry in a suburb of Detroit, and I was mostly given a blank slate on which to draft the teaching, and I chose to talk about “the parable from hell,” Luke 16, and developed the parable from the angle of how you and I may well approach this text with questions about who goes where when we die, but the parable asks us a different question: How have you treated the poor among you?

Another highlight was meeting RJS for the first time, and we had an opportunity to chat between services. We have been corresponding for years via e-mail but we had never met until last Sunday …
