Christ Church Plano

Christ Church Plano November 2, 2013

Last Saturday and Sunday Kris and I were down in Plano, TX, just outside Dallas to teach at the beautiful Christ Church Plano and we sure did enjoy ourselves with the good folks there. The highlight for us, of course, was the Sunday worship where I got to deliver the Sunday homily (on the lectionary reading from Luke 18:9-14, the parable of the Pharisee and tax collector). The acoustics in Christ Church are out of this world and when you combine that with good choirs and music and congregational singing, well, it’s a foretaste of the grand singing we will experience in the kingdom of God.

Saturday involved a full day — 9am to 3pm — beginning with Morning Prayer and ending with Evening Prayer. Between I did a long session on gospel and in the afternoon a session on kingdom and church, with plenty of questions and interaction. The gospel stuff was an adaptation and re-newal of The King Jesus Gospel, while the afternoon came from my forthcoming book (next Fall, Brazos) called Kingdom Conspiracy. I developed in the afternoon session the central theses in the relationship of the church, kingdom, state and world. Very enjoyable time with good questions.

Friday and Saturday evening we enjoyed time with Daniel Adkinson and others, including some time with David Roseberry Saturday night just after his long return from a church tour of the Mediterranean and Paul’s cities. Sunday morning included leadership by Susan Freeman and Toni Brooks. We were also honored to spend time also with Taylor and Yuce Kabakci and Aaron Williams, and Linda Zschoche took care of everything for our plans.

We are grateful for the opportunity to serve at Christ Church Plano.
