University of Georgia Rules on “Passion Marks” for Mens BB team 2014-03-31T11:30:23-05:00

Some of this is good and some of this is, well, odd and … probably needed:

Work of awesome student journalism at the University of Maryland asked athletic departments around the country for their policies on how student-athletes can use social media. It’s really riveting stuff, and factors into the Northwestern football players’ union case about how athletes on scholarship are subject to restrictions other students simply are not. We highly recommend taking a look at the piece if you’re interested in first amendment issues.

However, let’s skip past the important stuff and go straight to the ridiculous. Included were guidelines Georgia head coach Mark Fox issues to players on not just social media, but also on personal appearance, and, well . . . just take a peek:

It’s OK to observe that basketball coaches evidently have no grammar or spelling, but “passion marks” — that’s a new one!

Not a few times I had college male students doing their best to hide their neckly passion marks but I also had a few who wore their passion marks proudly. I’m just glad Phil Jackson, my friend and a pastor at Lawndale, wasn’t in the class to see those college kids. I can’t imagine the business he’d have given them!
