Thanks to Aldersgate

Thanks to Aldersgate October 5, 2014

FallColorsKris and I spent last weekend with the good folks at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Alexandria, VA. We were pleased to return as we were there a few years ago with the Jesus Creed and were able to reconnect with many people, including Jason Micheli (whose sermons I often post on Sundays) and head pastor, Dennis Perry.

After the Saturday evening service, we headed to a restaurant with many parishioners and had a “theology pub” type experience, discussing the ideas from Kingdom Conspiracy. It was good event with lots of good questions and clarifications. Aldersgate is a Washington DC kind of mix of political views so both sides of the ledger are always at the table. And I was delighted so many folks at Aldersgate took an interest in Kingdom Conspiracy by purchasing copies.
My Sunday morning message revolved around themes of heaven and kingdom and how God’s forgiveness and our extension of that forgiveness leads a conspiracy of reconciliation in this world. A number of folks shared with me after the sermons about their need to get right with family and friends and siblings.
Thank you to the folks at Aldersgate who made this trip so enjoyable, including Val and Gary and Terri and Mark who took care of so many details. Blessings on you all!
Oh, and by the way, our flight home was canceled so Kris and I, do to the kindnesses of Aldersgate, packed ourselves into a car and headed home — all 12 hours of it. The best part of that trip was that we didn’t have to watch the Bears debacle. And the other best part was the change of colors in the trees on the slopes of northern Maryland and southern Pennsylvania.
