Parents, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles — and others

Parents, Grandparents, Aunts and Uncles — and others December 10, 2014

Sharing Gods LoveIn addition to the Books of the Year recommendations for books to stash under the Christmas Tree, I want to recommend another one for the kids in your life.

To parents and grandparents, to aunts and uncles and — to others as well.

Last Sunday at church a friend, a Christian grade school teacher, told us she was reading one or two pages a day of my daughter’s (and my) book, Sharing God’s Love: The Jesus Creed for Childrento her students. She said it gave her opportunity to teach good social skills.

Oh yes, I’m a bit biased. Oh yes, our grandkids names are in the book. Oh yes, it’s special to us… and oh Yes, Laura wrote it and I advised and suggested and edited here and there…

… but it’s also a great reminder: the beginning of Christian ethics is to know that we are called to love God and to love others.

Israel’s great instructor, Moses, taught the children of Israel to say this daily — to teach it to their kids while walking on the path. “Hear O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is One. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.”

A nice addition alongside other Christmas gifts.
