Let’s Go Cubs! November 18, 2015

Kris Bryant, Joe Maddon and now Jake Arrieta:

In a close vote, Cubs‘ ace Jake Arrieta won the National League Cy Young award Wednesday night.

Arrieta finished with 169 points and 17 first-place votes, while Dodgers starter Zack Greinke had 147 points and 10 first-place votes.

Last year’s MVP and Cy Young winner, Clayton Kershaw, finished third with 101 points, earning three first-place votes.

The Cubs also got the trifecta. They won the first two major awards announced this week by the Baseball Writers Association of America, with Kris Bryant a unanimous selection asNL Rookie of the Year on Monday, and Joe Maddon earning his third Manager of the Yearaward on Tuesday.

Arrieta won a National League high 22 games while posting a 1.77 earned-run average, second to Greinke’s major-league leading 1.66 ERA. Greinke (19-3) also led the majors in win percentage (.864) and WHIP (0.844).

When the Cubs took off in the second half en route to a 97-win season, Arrieta was leading the way, throwing a no-hitter against the Dodgers on Aug. 30th in Los Angeles and getting stronger as the season progressed.

He went 12-1 with an 0.75 ERA after the All-Star break, the lowest second half ERA in major league history, posting a 6-0 record and 0.43 ERA in August and 5-0 record and 0.39 ERA in September/October.
