The Lord has been abundantly gracious to me in allowing me to experience some of the sweetest blessings while in DC. While I seek to have joy that is rooted in my Savior at all times, some of the most joyous moments come in the smallest, seemingly most “insignificant” ways. At least to an outside world that’s how they would appear.
Some of God’s blessings are clear and obvious, but others require that we slow down I most confess, I don’t always do a great job at being intentional about searching for the sweet moments the Lord has placed in my life. Sure I thank Him for the larger moments, but sometimes He opens up my eyes and allows me to see just how richly I am blessed.
Tonight was one of those nights…
Tuesday evenings are Bible study evenings with about 15 ladies from my church. We’ve been studying Colossians, and I’ve grown immensely in my walk with the Lord, and it’s been profitable to slowly study God’s word with other believers. Tonight, I admit I didn’t have the world’s best attitude going into Bible study. The closing verse of the book were our study verses and I wasn’t super thrilled to study them ( just being honest here).
One of my sweet sisters in bible study always gives me a ride home after we’re finished. Her name is Eva, and she’s probably one of the most joyful people I know.
Currently she’s job hunting and her immediate family doesn’t know Christ. If she doesn’t find a job in a certain time period, she’ll be faced with returning to her home country of China. Life isn’t peachy keen for her, but her relationship with the Lord makes me want to press into the Lord more.
Eva and I have developed a habit of praying together in the car before I head into my house.
This seemingly “small” act has become one of the sweetest moments of my week. I wish I could find the words to appropriately describe how precious it is to share some of the struggles and joys of my life and walk with the Lord with Eva and then immediately take these requests before the Father’s throne.
I am constantly amazed that the King of the universe wants us to talk with Him. Prayer is mind blowing to me. Tonight as we sat in the car, I asked Eva to pray for several things:
– My unsaved family members
-That I would choose to die to my sin in order that I might be filled with more of Christ
– That I would be content with where the Lord has me as far as relationships go. All of my housemates are in serious relationships, and the majority of my close friends are either engaged or seriously dating someone. It’s been a recent struggle to choose to trust the Lord with my future spouse and marriage.
After I shared my requests with Eva and she shared her requests with me, we grasped hands, bowed our heads and began to lift one another up before our Father.
Oh what a sweet privilege!
Beloved, I’ve searched my vocabulary for the proper words to describe what an honor it is to be able to pray with and for one another, but I’ve come up short. So, I have a challenge for you!
It’s as simple as that. Find a brother or sister, ask them how you can pray for them, and then do it!
* A word of caution here, I would be careful about praying with members of the opposite sex in more “intimate” settings. Obviously churches, small groups, and even friend groups are okay, but praying with one another, particularly if you’re sharing the deeper things of your heart with another person has a way of binding you together. Use wisdom.
I’d love to hear your stories about how the Lord is using your brothers and sisters to encourage you and lift you up in prayer.
May we never forget what a privilege it is to pray for one another, and may we search out and be aware of the sweet moments the Lord places in our life!
