The Most Outrageous Things I’ve Heard Today

The Most Outrageous Things I’ve Heard Today 2016-09-30T16:00:06-05:00

It’s one of those days when I’m scratching my head, wondering Just How Preposterous Can People Be.  It serves me right for reading the news, but please—let me explain:

 “JESUS WAS MUSLIM, NOT CHRISTIAN”
Reverend Louis Farrakhan, whose anti-Semitism and hatred for America have made headlines in the past, took the microphone Tuesday at Texas A&M University to offer these keen insights:

  • Jesus was not Christian.  Benny Johnson, reporting in The Blaze, quotes Farrakhan:  “Because Jesus said, ‘Not My Will, but Thy will.’  You know what we call that in Arabic?  Islam.  He was a Muslim.”
  • Going on to explain The Bible According to Farrakhan, the controversial minister corrected the Book of Genesis, explaining that God did not reject Cain’s offering.  “I’m better than those who have translated it out of the original tongues and revised it to fit their purpose,” he said.  “What makes you better?  Because I am taught of God.”

In the past, Farrakhan has called white people “potential humans who have not fully evolved.”  I’m still trying to figure out why he was invited by Texas A&M, and whether they feel the incendiary speech was a success.

“SHE NEVER WORKED A DAY IN HER LIFE”
Democratic strategist Hilary Rosen was forced to apologize after this one:  Last night in an interview with Anderson Cooper on CNN, Rosen claimed, of candidate Mitt Romney’s wife Ann, “She never worked a day in her life.”

Actually, Ann Romney chose to stay at home and raise her five sons, born between 1970 and 1981.  (And as every mother with small children knows, that’s no unimportant job!)  While Ann did not draw a paycheck while raising her children during their formative years, the Harvard-educated blonde First Lady of Massachusetts served as the governor’s liaison for federal faith-based initiatives.  She was involved in a number of children’s charities including Operation Kids.  She has actively campaigned in her husband’s 2008 and 2012 presidential runs.  Ann accomplished all of this while battling breast cancer (she underwent a lumpectomy in 2008) and multiple sclerosis.

Today, in a formal apology, Rosen asks, “Let’s put the faux ‘war against stay at home moms’ to rest once and for all.”  Excuse me, Ms. Rosen, but you fired all the shots in this war.

I HAVEN’T WORKED IN 14 YEARS
A retiring employee of the city of Mendon, Germany, emailed all 500 of his co-workers, boasting that he had been present, but had never really worked during his 14-year stint on the government payroll.  During that time, he drew about $975,000 in wages.  The employee had intended it to be a “last laugh” as he left the company; but his email went viral, angering the Mayor, the citizens of Mendon, and all of Germany.

This surpasses the report from my hometown, Detroit, where angry students protested recently at an all-boys’ school, insisting that they want their teachers to come to class and teach.  Absenteeism among the faculty, the students and their parents claimed, was very high.  One teacher, sources reported, had missed 68 days of classes.
