On Saturday morning, a coalition of feminist groups from Germany, Russia and Poland will take their support for abortion to new heights. The group plans to fly a drone across the Ober River from abortion-loving Germany to pro-life Poland, carrying a load of abortion pills. I told this story over at the National Catholic Register: The drone will carry the oral abortifacients Mifepristone and Misoprostol. In the early stages of pregnancy (up to nine weeks), a woman can self-administer the drugs... Read more

My fellow Patheos blogger Bristol Palin made a pretty big announcement this morning:  She told her readers that she’s pregnant, expecting her second child. You may recall that during her mother’s political campaign, Bristol was an 18-year-old unwed mother, and she chose not to marry son Tripp’s father Levi Johnson. Soon after giving birth to Tripp in 2008, Bristol launched an abstinence campaign, encouraging young women and men to wait until marriage to engage in sexual activity. And then it... Read more

An intriguing report out of England: The Vatican has hired Lynton Lasers, a tattoo removal company in Cheshire, to remove dirt from its priceless statues and paintings. The company’s infrared laser beams use a gentle heat to remove pollution and dirt from statues, many of which date back to the Middle Ages. Andy Charlton, the company’s chairman, said that the lasers can also be used on frescoes and artwork–but that it’s a sensitive process. “With artwork or frescoes,” Charlton explained to... Read more

“A good young man unknowingly opened his back door to a monster.” At a news conference regarding back-to-back slayings in Fargo, North Dakota, Police Chief Dave Todd repeated the line he’d heard Wednesday, explaining why 24-year-old Samuel Traut had been killed. The young man, who taught bible studies and other courses at the Newman Center at North Dakota State University, was hammered to death after opening his door and offering a stranger a glass of water. Ashley K. Hunter, who is... Read more

Two well-known athletes are making remarkable progress following stem cell transplants from a San Diego-based biopharmaceutical company; but the company’s own statements have caused some confusion as to just where the stem cells came from. Detroit Red Wings’ hockey great Gordie Howe and San Francisco 49ers’ retired quarterback John Brodie are showing remarkable progress after stem cell treatments with “adult stem cells,” according to Stemedica Cell Technologies president Maynard Howe. Only there’s a problem–and it seems that Stemedica’s public statements are not... Read more

When the time  arrived for Elizabeth  to have her child she gave birth to  a son. Her neighbors and  relatives heard that the Lord had shown his great mercy toward her, and they rejoiced  with her. I’m just so sorry this happened:  Tullian Tchividjian, the grandson of the popular evangelist Billy Graham, has resigned from his post at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church in Fort Lauderdale. Apparently, according to a statement which Tchividjian gave to the Washington Post, the resignation is due to a “moral failure” that included extramarital affairs. In his public statement, Pastor Tchividjian said, “I resigned from my position at Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church today due to ongoing marital issues. As many of you know,... Read more

Father Thomas Belczak, the popular pastor of St. Kenneth’s Catholic Church in Plymouth, has been reinstated after a nine-month FBI investigation into alleged financial improprieties. He will return to the pulpit on June 27. Father Belczak was suspended from the pastorate in October 2014, pending an investigation into whether he had misused funds intended for the parish. In a letter dated June 20, 2015, Auxiliary Bishop Francis Reiss announced that he will be reinstated, effective June 27. Approximately 500 parishioners attending... Read more

Dylann Storm Roof, the white man who allegedly opened fire on worshippers in a historically African-American church in Charleston, South Carolina on Wednesday, had published his “manifesto” before committing the crime. Roof’s racist, hate-filled screed was uncovered Saturday morning by Emma Quangel and Henry Krinkle, two Twitter users who discovered the hate-filled webpage called “The Last Rhodesian.” According to Yahoo News, the online activists used the Reverse Whois search on domaintools.com to find the site registered under Roof’s name. Writing on... Read more

Talk about being in the right place at the right time! It was September 2003, and I was leading a pilgrimage to Rome for a group of Catholic CEOs, members of Legatus.  We were so busy–Every day of our pilgrimage was filled with tours of historic basilicas, meetings with Vatican officials, lunches and dinners and gelato stands and, of course, daily Mass.  In the entire week we were in Rome, I slept little.  There was only one “free” night, when... Read more
