Three Simple Spells for Personal Development to do During the Waning Moon

Three Simple Spells for Personal Development to do During the Waning Moon April 3, 2018

The waning moon is a great time to do removal magick of all sorts. While there are spells to get rid of all that troubles us, including toxic people, there are times when personal development work is in order. Here are three simple spells that will help with your efforts to banish negative self judgment, give up bad habits and transform unrealistic expectations into realistic ones.

There’s no end to the types of removal spells that can drawn upon the energy of the waning moon for added power. Types of removal magick include: banishing, binding, reversal and transmutation. This is also a time to do cursing if you’re into that. In addition, the waning moon’s strength can be utilized to remove barriers ranging from obstacles between us and our true love to financial stability. Three common personal development areas of ending negative self judgment, letting go of bad habits and giving up unrealistic expectations can be strengthened with some waning moon magick, too.

Banishing Negative Self Judgment

If you suffer from a little voice who likes to judge everything you do in the harshest light, then banishing negative self judgment may be the spell for you. This simple spell will help you to cut the cord between you and all the yammering inside your head. You’ll need a piece of string (preferably red), paper, scissors and a candle (white is best). Create your protective circle as you usually do. A simple technique for casting a protective circle is to sweep your space clean with three rounds in a clockwise direction before beginning the spell using either a clean broom or freshly washed right hand.

Sit inside your circle. Think about the negative judgments you make against yourself. Here in the protective circle, you are safe from any emotional fall out from them. These are just thoughts. Make a list of all the ways you judge yourself. As you write the list, envision the energy of the thoughts running down your arm, through the pen onto the paper. When you are finished, feel how much lighter you are already. Ball up the paper tight, while saying something like “I banish all negative self talk” three times. Tie this ball to the string. Hold the other end in your left hand. Over the lit candle, cut the cord. The candle symbolizes the break-up between you and Miss Self Criticism. Open the circle by sweeping three times counter clockwise with either the clean broom or your clean left hand. Get rid of the ball and connected string. Carry the other end of the string with you to remind you that you’re free of negative self-talk. Light the candle daily while repeating affirmations.

Letting Go of Bad Habits (and Other Burdens)

Bad habits. We all have them. While no one is perfect, there comes a time when our bad habits need to go. Only you can know when the time is right for letting go. When the time is right, a removal spell can help us to let go of our baggage, like bad habits. You’ll need paper, pen, black fabric or black tape, a candle (black if possible) and a black rock. A shovel would be helpful, too. Create your protective circle as you usually do. A simple technique for casting a protective circle is to sweep your space clean with three rounds in a clockwise direction before beginning the spell using either a clean broom or freshly washed right hand.

Sit inside your circle. Think about the problems that your bad habit is creating. Here in the protective circle, you can remove the power of the habit over you. Using a piece of black rock, like obsidian, to absorb all that no longer serves us is a great energetic technique. The mineral will be happy to take on the energy and you’ll feel better. Write an intention stating what you need to let go of, whether it’s a bad habit or something else. Wrap your intention around the rock. Then wrap the toxic rock in the tape or cloth. Place this creation in front of the lit candle. Envision the fire burning your connection to the weight of your burdens, in this case a bad habit. Open the circle by sweeping three times counter clockwise with either the new broom or your clean left hand. Bury the rock. Throw the candle away.

Transforming Unrealistic Expectations into Realistic Ones

Unrealistic expectations can be very damaging. Whether we think that our home has to be always be tidy or our lover has to be free of faults, there’s no benefit to be found in hoping for perfection. A better approach is to expect things to be whole, flaws and all. Dirty dishes are a sign of a busy life. Does your potential partner need to meet every item on your checklist? Transmutation is a type of spell work that has us changing the energetic properties of an object in order to achieve our desired outcome. In this case, the intention is to change unrealistic expectations into realistic ones. That’s a lofty goal but using the energy of the dandelion can be quite helpful in this situation. If you can’t get a fresh one, purchase dried dandelion – it’s widely available as an herbal tea. You’ll also need paper, pen, a candle (if possible, yellow) and a small bag (yellow is best). Create your protective circle as you usually do. A simple technique is to sweep your space clean with three rounds in a clockwise direction before beginning the spell with a fresh broom or your clean right hand.

Sit inside your circle. Make a list of your unrealistic expectations. Place the dandelion and the list in the bag. Light the candle. Place your talisman in front of the candle. Envision all those expectations being transformed into more realistic ones by the energy of the candle. Open the circle by sweeping three times counter clockwise with the broom or your clean left hand.  Carry your talisman with you. Light the candle daily to help the transmutation process.

After the Spell

Spells only work when we align our actions, feelings and thoughts with our magickal intentions. After the spell, make a plan for removing the barrier to your personal development and then get busy.
