New Lawsuit Against Trump Accepting Foreign Income

New Lawsuit Against Trump Accepting Foreign Income 2017-06-12T10:49:36-07:00

DonaldTrumpHeadshotToday, two Democrats–the Attorney General Karl Racine of Washington D. C., the nation’s capital, and Attorney General Brian Frosh of the State of Maryland–filed a lawsuit claiming Donald Trump as U.S. President is violating anti-corruption clauses in the U.S. Constitution by presently accepting income from people representing foreign governments who rent rooms and perhaps play golf at Trump properties.

On the surface, this looks like as a rather frivolous lawsuit. But surely these two men are smarter than that. In order to prove this accusation, the lawsuit demands that Donald Trump make available his income tax returns in order for the plaintiffs to prove their case. That is what I think this lawsuit is really about. Trump’s tax returns were the subject of much focus during his presidential election campaign. He refused to release them even though all previous presidents had done so during their run for the presidency since about the 1960s. So, it had become a tradition, but it was never a law. There were many allegations about Trump’s tax returns, such as that he paid very little tax, made business deals with Russians, and didn’t give much to charity.

As I said in a previous post, I think Donald Trump eventually will resign the U.S. presidency and that he’ll concoct some excuse for doing so, which might be that the federal government is treating him unfairly regarding his financial empire.
