To be discreet, I should write this title, “Trump Saying ‘Fake News’ Is Disturbing.” But that doesn’t get peoples’ attention. Folks, this is serious business. We’ve got a president in the Black House who doesn’t really believe in our form of government. Donald Trump has been the U.S. president, now, for over fifteen months. He has constantly berated the press by calling it “Fake News.” Before social media came along, a U.S. president didn’t have the opportunity to get his message across to the American people so constantly as Trump does with his Twitter account. And we all know how often he uses it–oftentimes many times per day. Moreover, his Twitter messages don’t go out only to the American people, but to the entire world. That is what electronic social media has enabled. Trump is not only having a negative effect on America regarding its freedom of the press, a basic element of our American democracy, but he’s having a negative effect about this around the world. He is aiding despots who hate the free press.
President Trump announced this morning on Twitter, “The Fake News is working overtime. Just reported that, despite the tremendous success we are having with the economy & all things, 91% of the Network News about me is negative (Fake). Why do we work so hard in working with the media when it is corrupt? Take away credentials?” So, with this tweet the president is threatening the media. He again said, “the media … is corrupt.” WRONG! It is Donald Trump who is corrupt.
I get a lot of push back from readers of my blog when I say such things about our president. But why do I? Have you ever heard of the biblical prophets? America is in the throes of a political division perhaps greater than it has experienced since the Civil War. The one thing the USA should be doing during this difficult time is to protect its democratic institutions, such as our freedom of the press. Some readers of my blog dismiss me about this because I’m not an expert, meaning I’m not a member of the press or a politician or whatever. AMERICA, we all need to stand up and sound off in support of our great freedom of the media! Not just publishers, not just journalists, not just politicians, but ALL OF US.! There should always be opportunity for the expression of dissent.
I’ve been a newspaper guy all of my life, since my teens. I love having the opportunity to learn from various sources. I’ve always been interested in what is happening in my country and even throughout the world.
So, even though I was a professional golfer on the PGA Tour as my vocation in life, I didn’t just read the sports section of the newspapers. Evidence of this is that later on I became a researcher and an author of seven books so far and, God willing, many more to come. In these books, I interact with media, historians, and scholars in various fields, but especially regarding biblical literature.
The press, the media, is not Trump’s problem. The press is the people. Therefore, President Donald Trump’s problem is with the people. The press would not be in business if it were not for the people. And that’s because we have a open and free society that chooses to buy newspapers or not. It’s called DEMOCRACY. (And let’s not get semantical about it being a republic.) Just think of all the men who fought and died to protect our way of life and thus extend our free society. Donald Trump is against all that with his constant barraging of our free press with the accusation “Fake News.”
Trump can’t take criticism because he is a psychologically sick man. Now, I’m not deferring here to the medical profession as to whether or not he medically should be diagnosed as “sick.” I’m just being real, being how people talk. But medically, Donald Trump’s behavior makes it obvious that he is a classic narcissist. Such people cannot take criticism. Many American doctors have stated this in our free press about Trump since he has been president. Of course, he would call it FAKE NEWS. Trump doesn’t need to sweep out press networks from the Black House; rather, he needs a shrink!
