Where Will Trump’s Self-Inflicted Wounds Take Him?

Where Will Trump’s Self-Inflicted Wounds Take Him? July 4, 2020

President Donald Trump is a sinking ship, and he’s taking the Republican Party with him. It may take that party a long time to recover from its foolishness of selling out to Trumpism. It’s happening because of Trump’s self-inflicted wounds that are growing more malignant every day. The result is that Joe Biden, Trump’s opponent to stop his bid for reelection for the presidency come November, is on average ten percentage points ahead of Trump in the polls, and that Biden margin has been growing recently.

Trump’s most damaging self-inflicted wound for reelection is surely his tepid response to COVID-19. It is the worst crisis Americans have suffered since WWII, with 125,000+ Americans dead from this disease in four months and the worst recession we’ve had (solely due to that) since the Depression. And the number of U.S. citizens testing positive with COVID-19 has been on the biggest upswing yet in the past two weeks, hitting 55,000 new cases per day. Yet Trump still belittles the whole thing. He told us months ago it would go away soon like “a miracle.” He said he could “fix it.” Yet he has refused all of this time to wear a mask as all the leading health authorities have been advising, thus presenting himself as a terrible and confusing model for the public. At least he said this week he would now wear a mask. But for me, seeing is believing. He never told people to wear a mask or social distance last night at his Mount Rushmore celebration.

The next worst self-inflicted wound that Donald Trump has exacted is his white supremacist response to the month-old Black Lives Matter movement against racism and police brutality against non-whites. Last night at his Mount Rushmore event, he referred to BLM as “a symbol of hate.” And he continued his opposition to the recent tearing down of statues of Confederate generals due to BLM and the like as a destruction of legacy and history. Baloney! It is a cleaning up of our dirty past. Those statues should have never been placed. This is the United State of America–act like it people. The racist Confederacy didn’t, and they lost. Trump is a divider, not a uniter.

Donald Trump is a relic of the past. He can’t see that the biggest black mark against the USA has always been slavery of blacks taken from Africa. Black Lives Matter is merely an effort to try to rectify this disgrace–the white’s mans’ capture of African blacks, shipping them to the New World, and enslaving them here to enrich the pockets of Southern white men and build their big plantations.

What does Donald Trump know about it? The self-proclaimed “stable genius” is anything but. You can’t be smart in this world if you don’t read nonfiction books written by people who know what they’re talking about. Trump treats books as cancer.

Trump grew up and lived in New York City all his life. I was born and reared in Seattle and lived forty years in the South–in Houston, Texas. I played the PGA Tour all over this country, including a lot in the South, for thirty years full time. I saw racism against blacks as much as most anybody.

Trump is racist through and through. The U.S. has been a great nation that largely stood for the God of the Jews and Christians. Yet it has been so hypocritical regarding especially blacks and others, with its Declaration of Independence saying “all men are created equal” while much of the nation acted quite to the contrary. The U.S. is long overdue to begin financial remuneration, called reparations, to blacks for this terrible misdeed. Donald Trump is a relic about this, thus on the wrong side of history. I believe reparations to blacks likely will begin soon if Trump is thrown out of office.

Donald Trump is a cancer on the Republican Party. It may be a long time before the Republican Party gets healed of it. Trump has inflicted these wounds on himself, but also on the Republican Party. It wouldn’t have happened if Republican politicians would have stood up to his obvious wrongdoing, which includes mistreatment of U.S. allies and the ruining of the USA reputation worldwide. Historians are now talking about a “Post-USA World,” and it is only because of Donald Trump.

It’s all because Donald Trump is a psychologically sick man, being a classic narcissist. We will learn a lot about this the end of this month when Trump’s niece, Mary Trump, who is a clinical psychologist with a PhD, comes out with her Simon & Schuster book entitled Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World’s Most Dangerous Man. She knows because she was there in the room, even more than John Bolton was as he says in his new Simon & Schuster book about Trump entitled, The Room Where It Happened.

As I’ve said many times on my blog since Donald Trump became president, the Bible says, “When pride comes, then comes disgrace” (Proverbs 11.2 NRSV), and “pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall” (16.18). Trump is such a braggart; yet we also read, “Let another praise you, and not your own mouth” (27.2). We’re seeing this unfold before our eyes. There are people who push back against me about this on my blog. But for me, their argument is not against me, but what God says here.

The same book in the Bible’s wisdom literature says, “in abundance of counselors there is victory. Wisdom is too high for fools” (24.6-7). President Trump has had so many counselors, and yet he has had by far the highest turnover of them, acting out his former role as a television celebrity on The Apprentice with his trademark pronunciation “you’re fired”! It’s because, “There is a way that seems right to a person, but its end is the way of death” (14.12). Those who know, including his Malania, say The Donald listens to others, but still goes his own way.

According to God’s Word: Trump’s Way will send him down The Highway of Shame!
