Did Trump Implicate Himself Criminally at Conroe?

Yesterday, former President Donald Trump held a political rally in Conroe, Texas, 40 miles north of downtown Houston, called Save American PAC.” I’m a former resident of metro-Houston 40 years.) He mentioned that the U.S. Congress is considering a bi-partisan alteration of the 1887 Electoral Count Act that would affect, among perhaps other items, the ceremonial role of the vice president in certifying the electoral votes of a presidential election on Certification Day, which was January 6, 2020, when the Capitol riot occurred.

In Trump’s 80 minute speech at Conroe yesterday he said of that subject, “Actually what they are saying is that Mike Pence did have the right to change the outcome, and they now want to take that right away. Unfortunately, he didn’t exercise that power, he could have overturned the election.” In saying this, Trump clearly admitted that Joe Biden won the election and that he, Trump, has been trying to overturn it.

IMO, that is a crime that should result in his imprisonment. Therefore, that public admission could be used against him by prosecutors as evidence of wrongdoing. But if that happens, Trump and his lawyers likely will resort to the same playbook of denying that that is what he meant, thus claiming that the election count was fraudulent and that he merely has been trying to overturn a fraudulent election result. So, again, Donald Trump would try to weasel out of a clear admission that he has been violating the U.S. Constitution in trying to overthrow the U.S. government.
