Boebert Says She’s “tired of this separation of church and state junk” 2025-04-28T11:53:20-07:00

Lauren Boebert, a Republican Representative from Colorado–in the wake of last week’s controversial ruling of the U.S. Supreme Court to effectively ban abortion by overturning Roe v. Wade–stated at a religious service last Sunday in Colorado, “I’m tired of this separation of church and state junk that’s not in the Constitution. It was in a stinking letter, and it means nothing like what they say it does.”

What was the “stinking letter”? She apparently referred to Thomas Jefferson’s 1802 letter to the Danbury Baptist Association.

This argument has been hotly contested throughout the entire existence of the United States of America. The First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution declares, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” This statement is the basis of the belief that the U.S. Constitution separates church and state while also preserving the freedom for its citizens to worship as they see fit or to not worship. It’s called religious freedom.

Boebert had also explained, “The church is supposed to direct the government. The government is not supposed to direct the church. That is not how our Founding Fathers intended it.”

Depends on what she means by “direct.” If she means to be a moral and ethical influence, I’d say yes. But if she means to “control” the government, I’d say no. Rather, religion controlling the government is the main reason the Pilgrims escaped the church-state governments of Europe and came here to the new world.

Plus, I recently wrote a post here and here about the image of mystery Babylon the harlot riding a seven-headed beast recorded in the Bible’s latter portion, in Revelation 17, and relating it to Vladimir Putin’s Russian World concept. The image reflects Babylon symbolizing false religion controlling the beast, and the beast symbolizes government.
