Rupert Murdoch is the owner of mega-media empire Fox Corp. which owns Fox News, the most watched cable TV news channel in the U.S. It was revealed today that during Murdoch’s testimony last month in the Dominion Voting Systems defamation lawsuit against Fox News, he admitted major Fox News hosts lied to the American public on their TV programs by agreeing with Trump lawyers Rudy Giuliani and Sidney Powell who claimed the 2020 presidential election was fraudulent and that former President Donald Trump really won the election, thus not Joe Biden.
When investigators asked Murdoch under oath specifically if Fox News hosts Sean Hannity, Jeanine Pirro, Lou Dobbs, and Maria Bartiromo endorsed this election conspiracy about a stolen election, Murdoch said, “They endorsed” it. He also admitted he could have stopped it, he didn’t, and hindsight shows he should have. When asked if the Fox News organization lied about the election, he said, “Not Fox. No, not Fox.”
So, Murdoch blamed his Fox News hosts for peddling the lie about a fraudulent election, but he claims the Fox News organization is innocent. Well, we’ll see how this plays out in court.
I wonder if this is like the Bible’s early narrative in which God said to Adam, “‘Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you not to eat?’ The man said, ‘The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate.’ Then the LORD God said to the woman, ‘What is this that you have done?’ The woman said, ‘The serpent tricked me, and I ate'” (Genesis 3.11-13 NRSV). My point is that when people are caught in misbehavior, they often blame the other guy. President Truman said of his Oval Office, “the buck stops here.” Will the courts find that that is the case with 91-year old Rupert Murdoch?
