Scottie Scheffler keeps on proving he is the #1 pro golfer in the world for the past two years. This morning, he finished the last three holes of his final round in the weather-delayed, PGA Tour’s RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, with a par, par, and bogey to shoot a 19-under par 265 total to win by three strokes over Sahith Theegala, who finished alone in second place, and four strokes over Wyndham Clark and Patrick Cantlay, who tied for third place.
I was surprised that Scheffler competed in this tournament, which was the very next week after he won the Masters Tournament since it can be emotionally draining to win a major, but especially the Masters. Yet, determined Scottie said in his presentation speech just two hours ago, “I didn’t show up here just to have some sort of ceremony and have people tell me congratulations” for winning the Masters last week. “I came here with a purpose”–to win this tournament. Scottie, we believe you!
Today’s win gave Scheffler four wins out of his last five tournaments that he has competed in on the PGA Tour. He began this streak in Florida by winning the Arnold Palmer Invitational and then The Players Championship, which is regarded as an unofficial fifth major. Next, Scheffler missed a six-foot putt on the final, 72nd hole of the Texas Children’s Houston Open to finish second by one stroke. But the next week he regained his composure by winning the Masters and now this win today. Four wins out of five tournaments and the pro golf season seems like it is just getting started. Golf fans are comparing Scottie Scheffler to Tiger Woods, who repeatedly won seven or eight PGA Tour tournaments in a season.
