Scottie Scheffler—going on three years now as the #1 pro golfer in the world—just shot a five-under par 66 today to take a whopping seven stroke lead with 16 under par after the first round in the season-ending Tour Championship. Scottie also is the most prominent regular of the weekly PGA Tour Bible Study meetings. Tied for second place are Exander Schauffele and Colin Morikawa.
Scheffler started the day at 10 under with the Tour’s system, leaving Schauffele in second place at 8 under. Scottie promptly bogeyed the 1st hole. But it was all roses for him during the rest of the round today. When Scheffler gets a lead, he often increases it. He could lap the field this week, further protecting his #1 world ranking.
The Tour Championship is the season ending event on the PGA Tour. It is the third leg of three consecutive tournaments that represent a qualifying system, with the Tour Championship being a severely limited field of only thirty players, thus the thirty best pros who play the PGA Tour.
This event also determines the winner of the FedEx Cup, which is a season-long competition. Scottie is leading that as well. As for the Player of the Year, which will be determined later this year, it has been a toss up lately between Scheffler and Schauffele. If Scheffler wins this tournament, the Player of the Year award could go to him since it would be seven wins this year for him, with one of them being a major—The Masters.
You can see a video about how Scottie Scheffler and Tour player Sam Burns talk about giving some of their time to golf camps hosted by College Golf Fellowship by going to their website collegegolffellowship.com. And they tell about it influenced them in their Christian faith when they attended college.
