Trump Wants Greenland
U.S. President Donald Trump has been threatening to force Greenland to become a part of the U.S. He has said that he will do it the easy way, by purchasing Greenland, or the hard way, by attacking Greenland with the U.S. military. Of course, as with many things Donald Trump does as U.S. president, he does not inquire of Congress about it or in any way what Americans think of it. Polls show overwhelmingly that Americans do not want their government to either purchase Greenland or take it by force.
Greenland Doesn’t Want Trump
I wonder what the great Christian priest and missionary to Greenland, Hans Egede, would think about this matter. Although Greenland is a large island covered mostly by ice, it’s population is only about 57,000. And what do Greenlanders think about this Trump threat? Polls show they are very strongly opposed to it.
Greenland is a self-governing, independent country that has a protection agreement with Denmark. It and the U.S. were founding nations of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). It is the most successful military alliance in human history. It was established after WWII for security purposes in opposition to mostly the USSR. NATO has a Article 5 that says, in effect, an attack against one member is an attack against all.
President Trump often speaks derogatorily about NATO and Europe. To me, he does not sound like an American when he does this. He also speaks often about how Russian President Vladimir Putin is his friend. I believe dictator Putin is the most evil man in the world because he has been responsible for so many people being killed, especially due to Russia’s unprovoked invasion and war with Ukraine.
Trump Likely Is a Russian Asset
Why does Trump, the president of the most successful democracy in human history, cozy up to such an evil dictator as Russia’s President Vladimir Putin. First the USSR and then Russia have been attempting to groom Donald Trump as a Russian asset since the 1980s, when Trump and his first wife Ivana visited Moscow when The Donald was first trying to build a Trump hotel in Moscow. The KGB tried to do such things to selected foreigners without them being so aware of it. Yet it is possible that the USSR/Russia have had kompromat on Trump for decades. See my posts, “Is Donald Trump a Russian Asset?” and “AI Chatbot Grok Says Trump Likely Is a Russian Asset,” and “President of Portugal Says Trump Is a ‘Russian Asset.'” Putin hates NATO with a purple passion and has been putting a bug in Trump’s ear about it for many years.
Missionary Hans Egede—Apostle to Greenland
So, if the U.S. attacked Greenland, that would be considered an attack against NATO member Denmark. NATO would then have to invoke Article 5, putting the U.S. at war with NATO fellow member Denmark. That would require all other 30 member states of NATO to go to war against the U.S. in an effort to protect Denmark and Greenland.

Again, what would Hans Egede think of all this? He lived in 1686–1758. He was a Lutheran missionary from Norway. He was called “the Apostle of Greenland.” In 1728, Egede established a Danish-Norwegian colony on Greenland, founding the present capital of Greenland, which is Nuuk but was then Godthab, which means “Good hope.” I doubt that missionary Egede would have thought the U.S. attacking Greenland would be good hope for Greenlanders.
