Is Trump a Jerk?

Is Trump a Jerk? 2021-02-26T11:46:43-07:00

President Donald Trump is at it again. Or did he ever quit? Demeaning people about their physical appearance or other such characteristics. For example, years ago he called Hollywood actor and comedian Rosie O’Donnell “a fat pig.” In a single speech in 2007, Trump called Rosie “a degenerate” and “a slob” and “a pig.” Trump proudly calls such behavior of his resisting “political correctness,” and so many of his political supporters applaud him for it. I call it being a jerk!

Last year, President Trump called North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un “short and fat” and “little rocker man” because of North Korea’s many test rockets that can now carry nuclear weapons to the U.S. mainland. This is very serious stuff, this interchange of words about nuclear weapons, and Trump is making it worse. What a jerk!

This week he called Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA)–a member of the House Intelligence Committee that is investigating the Russia probe in our election–“little Adam Schiff.” During the Republican primaries in the presidential election campaign, Trump called Senator Mark Rubio, who ran against Trump, “little Mark Rubio.” So, if reincarnation were true, which I don’t believe it is, I think Trump would come back as a little ant or something like that. What a jerk!

It was reported in media today that Trump, as president, still mocks our honorable U.S. Senator here in Arizona, John McCain–who recently underwent brain cancer surgery–about his physical disability with his arms which he incurred as a prisoner in the Vietnam War. During the election campaign, Trump also had ridiculed McCain for being captured when the jet fighter plane he was piloting was shot down. McCain then endured over five years as a POW when the North Vietnamese actually offered him freedom only because they then learned McCain’s father had been a Navy Admiral. McCain refused out of loyalty to his prisoner comrades. What a jerk–Trump that is!

Trump sometimes calls people or happenings “a disgrace.” Last week, President Trump gave his State of the Union speech. Of course, members of Congress in attendance are divided into two sides of the aisle according to the two political parties. When Trump would say something, sometimes the Republican members of Congress on one side of the aisle would clap and the Democratic members of Congress on the other side of the aisle would not clap.

Days later, Trump gave a speech in which he mentioned this difference in applause to his speech. Someone in his audience yelled out that such behavior by Democrats was “treasonous.” Trump picked up on this and said yes, that was “treasonous,” unpatriotic, a “disgrace” for Democrats not to clap also. What a jerk!

Bravo to Jeff Flake, our other honorable U.S. senator here in Arizona. This man is a statesman. Too bad he decided not to run for re-election. Yet, maybe we aren’t seeing the last of him in U.S. politics. Yesterday, Senator Flake gave another stirring speech criticizing President Trump, who has it coming for sure. Flake said of applause at Trump’s State of the Union speech, “respect is earned not commanded.” Indeed, this is a God-blessed democracy, not an autocracy ruled by a tyrant who demands loyalty.

Flake, in response to some Republicans who said Trump’s “treasonous” remark was sarcasm, said, “treason is not a punchline, Mr. President.” Republican Flake, a Mormon and respectful person of others, added, “Our Democratic colleagues love this country as much as we [Republicans] do. To suggest otherwise is simply unconscionable.” Right! Donald Trump doesn’t have much of a conscience.

Donald Trump does not believe in our democracy, with its freedom of speech. He constantly bashes the media, calling it “fake news.” That’s only because it almost always tells the truth about him, and, like his wife Melania says, he fights back so much that if someone hits him he hits back ten times harder. I don’t advocate violence. But I confess, I’d like to see what would happen if former Democratic Vice President Joe Biden got his wish to meet Donald Trump back behind the woodshed for some fisticuffs.

I believe in put up or shut up. Remember when our early statesmen conducted civil discourse to such a degree that if some politician called another politician a liar or such, they might challenge each other to a duel? Yet I’m not advocating this kind of behavior either. Just saying. The most famous duel in our nation’s history was due to a bitter rivalry between sitting U.S. Vice President Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton, the former Secretary of the Treasury, in 1804. Hamilton shot first and missed, then Burr’s shot struck Hamilton, causing him to die the next day.

As a classic narcissist, Donald Trump believes in himself. I think this man will be in for a rude awakening someday unless he has a serious change of heart and thus attitude. I don’t see it coming. Yet I wish him such and sometimes even pray good things for the man. But in the meantime, President Donald Trump’s lack of civil discourse makes him a disgrace to our country. That’s just one reason why he’s a jerk!

You know, people don’t change from being a jerk until they really see that they are a jerk. That’s what Trump needs. Maybe if he hears it from enough people, he’ll be able to see himself as he is.
