Israel and the Church: From Heresy to Truth

Jews–“He [Jesus] practiced sorcery and enticed Israel to apostasy” (Sanhedrin 43).

George Bernard Shaw–“All great truths begin as heresy.”

Jesus–“The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed, which a man took and planted in his field. Though it is the smallest of all your seeds, yet when it grows, it is the largest of garden plants” (Matthew 13.31-32 NIV).

God–“They made me jealous by what is no god and angered me with their worthless idols. I will make them envious by those who are not a people; I will make them angry by a nation that has no understanding” (Deuteronomy 32.21 NIV; cf. Romans 10.19-20).

God–“I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me; I was found by those who did not seek me. To a nation that did not call on my name, I said, ‘Here am I, here am I'” (Isaiah 65.1 NIV).

Jesus–“Therefore I tell you that the kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a people who will produce its fruit” (Matthew 21.43 NIV).

Paul–“I do not want you to be ignorant of this mystery, brothers and sisters, so that you may not be conceited: Israel has experienced a hardening in part until the full number of the Gentiles has come in, and in this way all Israel will be saved. As it is written [in Isaiah 59.20-21]: ‘The deliverer will come from Zion; he will turn godlessness away from Jacob. And this is my covenant with them when I will take away their sins'” (Romans 11.25-27 NIV).
