Thiel’s Eschatology Is Pure Confusion
During the past year, Peter Thiel (pronounced “Teel”)—a bigtime billionaire investor from Silicon Valley and a former evangelical Christian who gets a lot of media hype—has been delivering lectures about the end times Antichrist to private, invited-only audiences that last a few days and are held in different locations. He does not allow for the lectures to be videotaped or for journalists to attend and report on what he says. But his message leaks out from some of those in attendance. I have blogged about this. See “Peter Thiel, Antichrist, and the Tech Apocalypse.” (Thiel co-founded PayPal and Palantir and was a big original investor in Facebook.)
Thiel Says Pope Leo Is a “Woke American Pope”
Peter Thiel, 58, is a practicing homosexual who is married. He is also an extreme right-wing political pundit who has many close and famous friends in high places, such as President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, the world’s richest man. And Thiel can be outspoken about his politics. For example, he has been chastising Pope Leo XIV, accusing him of being a “woke American pope.”
Pope Leo has responded to this criticism. Moreover, Pope Leo—who is from Chicago and the Roman Catholic Church’s first American pope—has been publicly criticizing President Trump several times for some of his politics, and I agree with the pope about this. In fact, I believe Pope Leo is a good Christian man and the best pope during my lifetime even though I don’t agree with the institution of the Church’s papacy. Thiel calls himself a “small-o orthodox Christian.”
Today, Thiel began irritating the Vatican by staging his next lecture series on the Antichrist in Rome near the Vatican, being held on March 15-18. As I explain in that post mentioned above, Thiel mixes up New Testament words, such as “antichrist” and “apocalypse,” giving them different meanings other than their original meanings in the Greek language when those documents were written nearly 2,000 years ago.
Peter Thiel’s main thesis is that a “totalitarian one-world government” will be formed in the end times generated by technology, and he warns that it should be opposed now. Thus, Thiel seems to have a love-hate relationship with that one thing that he prides himself about knowing—technology.
But I show in that post mentioned above that Thiel likely inherited this teaching about a one-world government from his evangelical parents and that it is an incorrect teaching derived from the prophetic book of Revelation, that last book in the Bible. And this one-world government teaching has been popular among evangelicals for the last two generations or more, but I show in that post that it is a misunderstanding.
In being against so-called “woke policy,” Thiel opposes environmentalism and, like Trump, alleges that human-induced global warming is a “hoax,” both of which I vehemently deny. Thiel has despicably called teenager Greta Thunberg, a prominent environmentalist, the “legionnaires of the Antichrist.”
The Vatican Calls Thiel an “Agent of Chaos”
The Vatican’s official newspaper L’Avvenire has called Thiel an “agent of chaos” who believes “world government processes are the Antichrist and only technological progress managed by great powers (left free from all constraints) can bring peace and security.” This piece was written by Milena Santerini. He further describes Thiel’s politics, “Humanitarian policies, rules imposed on technology, underestimation of the ‘natural’ violence of men and defense of the rights of the weak (criticized as ‘woke’) according to Thiel have in fact produced Western decadence.”
Pope Leo has condemned President Trump’s attacks on Venezuela and Iran, urging him to use “dialogue in which the voices of peoples can be heard.” Like his predeccesor Pope Francis, Pope Leo has further criticized President Trump’s policies against immigrants as “extremely disrespectful,” saying “we have to look for ways of treating people humanely, … with dignity.” He told Trump to appeal to the courts regarding illegal immigration, that that is “a system of justice.”
