Max Homa just won the Farmers’ Insurance Open, his sixth PGA Tour tournament win, by shooting a six-under par 66 for a 13-under par total of 273 at Torrey Pines Golf Course located just north of San Diego, California. He was two strokes ahead of Keegan Bradley, who finished alone at second, and Collin Morikawa finished alone at third, three shots back. Winless Sam Ryder had led the tournament all the way until he missed his drive to the right... Read more

Absolutely not! That is, if you believe the Bible. I don’t like to disagree with Christian leaders, such as Pope Francis. But Christians should let the Bible teach them both how to believe and how to live, and the Bible never says all people are “children of God.” Pope Francis has been saying this throughout his papacy. He said it again today in an interview about homosexuality. The Bible very clearly condemns homosexuality. But Pope Francis seems to have a... Read more

Since 2016, I’ve blogged five times about the Doomsday Clock, thus each time it was changed. It has been set at two minutes to Midnight for the past three years. That is the closest to Midnight that the Doomsday Clock has been since it’s inception. Today, it was set at 90 seconds to Midnight, which is now the closest to Midnight it has ever been. What is the Doomsday Clock. It is a symbolic warning of how much the world... Read more

E. Jean Carroll, the retired columnist with Elle magazine, has two lawsuits against Donald Trump for defamation of character and rape. After much languishing regarding only one charge, on defamation, New York changed a law and both lawsuits are now proceeding swiftly in court, seemingly more in favor of Ms. Carroll now. Trump was deposed about it a few months ago, and the results were made public this week. Ms. Carroll claims that Trump raped her in a New York... Read more

COVID-19 is a pandemic caused by zoonosis–the transmission of a coronavirus from an animal or animals to humans and perhaps vice versa. There is still some uncertainty about how COVID-19 started. The prevailing view among epidemiologists and other medical experts is still that it originated in China and that it was transmitted from bats to people with the possibility of an intermediary animal being involved as a reservoir, and if so it likely was a pangolin. In my book, Moses... Read more

Benjamin Netanyahu has served as the prime minister of the State of Israel, longer than anyone, for a total of fifteen years. About ten days ago, he was sworn in as Israel’s prime minister for an unprecedented sixth term. But to do so, he had to form a coalition government that includes numerous political parties that have at least one seat in the Knesset–Israel’s 120-seat parliament. This new, very right-wing and quite religious coalition party of Likud’s Prime Minister Netanyahu... Read more

The swashbuckling, Spaniard Jon Rahm came from way behind today to win the PGA Tour’s limited-field Sentry Tournament of Champions golf tournament at Kapalua, Maui, Hawaii by two strokes over Collin Morikawa, who collapsed in the closing holes. After bogeying the first hole today, Rahm rallied to shoot a blazing ten-under par 63 while Morikawa lost his seven-stroke lead from the third hole to shoot a dismal  one-under par 72. It was a nightmare finish for Morikawa, who has connections... Read more

About a year ago, my church changed how it administers communion at its Sunday morning worship service. Previously, it had always passed out plates to us congregants that had small crackers and little plastic cups filled with grape juice. That had been pretty standard practice among churches during my lifetime. I always assumed the plastic cups were afterwards cleaned and reused, thus leaving no waste products. Of course, that requires some minimal labor in the washing of the cups. But... Read more

The PGA Tour started off the new year today with its first round of the Sentry Tournament of Champions for the 25th year at the Kapalua Plantation Course in Maui, Hawaii. Three co-leaders shot 9-under par 64s: Colin Morikawa, J. J. Spaun, and Jon Rahm. This special tournament consists of only 39 winners from last season’s PGA Tour schedule. My friends and golf analyst Brandel Chamblee was speaking on the Golf Channel’s Golf Central program on TV today about... Read more
