Are We the Kind of People God is Looking For?

Are We the Kind of People God is Looking For? May 1, 2018

By Dr. KP Yohannan, Founder and Director, Gospel for Asia

One person. It only takes one person to rout the spiritual forces of darkness and establish a testimony for the glory of God.

History bears witness to this truth as it reminds us of individuals—Saint Benedict, Adoniram Judson, Pandita Ramabai, Sadhu Sundar Singh, Moses, Elijah. The list could go on and on. In every generation, there are the individuals who chose to:

  • Rise above the easy norm
  • Set their face like flint

And thus accomplish great things for God.

Sisters of Compassion - KP Yohannan - Gospel for Asia
Pray for Gospel for Asia-supported Sisters of Compassion, who dedicate themselves to serving God by helping the poorest of the poor in Asia.

From the beginning of time, God has sought for these kinds of individuals, those to whom He can show Himself strong and through whom He can bring about His plans and purposes on earth.

“The eyes of the LORD search the whole earth in order to strengthen those whose hearts are fully committed to him.” (2 Chronicles 16:9)

But God doesn’t always find the people He is looking for. We see the truth of this in His lament in Ezekiel 22:30 (NASB), “I searched for a man among them who would build up the wall and stand in the gap before Me for the land, so that I would not destroy it; but I found no one (emphasis mine). Read a few paragraphs before this verse, and you will find that God was searching among those called by His name—His prophets, leaders and priests.

God Is Still Searching

If God were searching among us today, would He find in us the kind of person He is looking for?

Well, God is searching among us today for the one among His people who will:

  • Make the choice to seek Him
  • Conform his or her life to His principles
  • Follow Him regardless of what kind of compromise or complacency may surround

I fear that many within the Body of Christ may be passed by in His search for men and women like this.

God is not looking for the majority who claim to be His, but for those authentic few, who, by their character, demonstrate that they are His and that they follow Him above all else.

Spiritual Lethargy or Radical Faith?
Today, let us examine our hearts and lives for evidence of authentic faith.

Dr. KP Yohannan, founder and director of Gospel for Asia, has written more than 200 books, including Revolution in World Missions, an international bestseller with more than 4 million copies in print. His Road to Reality radio program airs on more than 200 outlets worldwide. He and his wife, Gisela, have two grown children, Daniel and Sarah, who both serve the Lord with their families.

Gospel for Asia has been serving the “least of these” in Asia since its beginning in 1979, often in places where no one else is serving. GFA supports national workers who are serving as the hands and feet of Christ by ministering to people’s needs so they can understand the love of God for them for the first time. GFA is engaged in dozens of projects, such as caring for poor children, slum dwellers and widows and orphans; providing clean water by funding wells; supporting medical missions; and meeting the needs of those in leprosy colonies. Through GFA’s Bridge of Hope Program, tens of thousands of children are being rescued from the generational curses of poverty and hopelessness.
