There are three things that have been a constant theme over the course of my life- faith, prayer and identity. Interestingly enough it’s the last one that was highlighted much later for me and yet its roots run the deepest. As a faith-based content creator and coach I often ponder the questions: What does it mean to be a Christian in today’s world? What do I want exhibit for others in terms of how to live a life of faith and prayer? How do we as Believers find identity in Christ?
In reflecting on my Christian perspective, my upbringing is the first thing that comes to mind. You’ve seen me refer to myself as a pew baby here in the blog as well as in my live teachings on Facebook and YouTube. I’ve literally been a part of the Christian Church my entire life. So my views on these three are deep-seated. We’re living in crazy times in a crazier world, but we can’t allow that to negatively impact our beliefs. Thankfully God hasn’t left us alone. He’s given us His Word, His Spirit and His Church to guide us, comfort us and empower us. He’s also given us a sense of humor, which can help us cope with the stress and difficulties life serves us.
Here are some tips on how to practice faith, prayer and identity as a Christian in the current climate:
Hold on to your faith. Faith is not a blind leap into the dark, but a confident trust in God’s promises and character. Faith is not a one-time decision, but a daily choice to follow Jesus and obey His commands. Faith is not passive acceptance, but active engagement with God’s will and His purpose. To grow in faith, we need to read the Word, listen to God’s voice and act on His guidance.
Hold on to the power of prayer. Prayer is not a ritual, but a relationship. Prayer is not a monologue, but a dialogue. Prayer is not a duty, but a delight. To grow through prayer, we need to talk to God regularly, honestly and sincerely. We need to praise Him, thank Him, confess to Him and ask Him for help. We also need to listen to Him, pay attention to His answers and respond to His invitations.
Hold on to your identity. dentity is not a label, but a reality. Identity is not a performance, but a gift. Identity is not a source of pride, but a source of gratitude. To discover our identity, we need to look to Jesus, our Savior. He is the image of God and the author of our salvation. We ought to accept His love, grace and forgiveness. We also need to embrace the call, mission and destiny He’s set for our lives.
Keeping these three in mind, we must also be aware of our calling and not run from it. Calling is not a burden, but a blessing. Calling is not a constraint, but a freedom. Calling is not fear, it’s faith. To pursue our calling, we must trust God. He has a plan and a purpose for our lives. We must be brave, willing to take risks and face challenges. We also need to be adventurous, open to explore new opportunities and experiences. As Christians, we’re called to be salt and light in the world. We are to shine God’s glory and spread His goodness. We are also called to be humble and compassionate, to serve God and love others. We’re not perfect, but we are forgiven. We’re not alone, because we are part of a family. We’re not hopeless, we are hopeful. So let’s keep the faith, keep praying and keep our identity in Christ. We can even enjoy some laughs along the way. God has a sense of humor too you know. He made us to be like Him and to live full.
