Jesus is the Reason for the Season

Jesus is the Reason for the Season December 24, 2024

Today is the perfect day to reflect on the true meaning of Christmas. From the time of the fall of man in the Garden of Eden, God had a plan of redemption for humanity. God’s redemption plan culminated in the birth of Jesus Christ who came to earth to be the Redeemer of mankind. Jesus is the reason for the season.

Why Do We Need a Savior?

As human beings we are born with the nature to sin. We struggle every day to keep this sin nature in check. Since the fall of mankind, it is impossible for us to achieve the righteousness that God desires, therefore, we need a Savior who atones for our sins and reconciles us back to God.

In Romans 3:23 tells us that “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” which means that we all need Jesus. He is the One who becomes righteousness for us through His death on the cross and subsequent resurrection. Receiving Jesus into your life, repenting of your sins and living for Him results in the most amazing gift: eternal life.

The truth is that we all need a Savior to bridge the gap between our imperfect sin nature and God’s perfect holiness.

Jesus is the Reason for the Season

God’s plan for our redemption is Jesus. He was always the plan. The Christmas Season is all about the celebration of our coming Savior. The Prophet Isaiah prophesied the birth of Christ 700 years before He was born In Isaiah 9:6:

“For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;
And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.”

Jesus is the fulfillment of this prophecy. The birth of Jesus Christ is the greatest event in history because through His birth, humanity is saved. This prophecy is not the only one Isaiah makes about Jesus. In fact, Isaiah prophesied about Jesus in great detail.

‘Twas the Night Before Jesus Came

A few years ago, I came across this poem that fully portrays the purpose of the birth of Jesus and the state of mankind when He returns. The author of this poem is unknown, but I’m sure whoever wrote it may not have understood the impact it has had on the lives of many who read it.

‘Twas the Night Before Jesus Came

‘Twas the night before Jesus came and all through the house

Not a creature was praying, not one in the house.

Their Bibles were laid on the shelf without care

In hopes that Jesus would not come there.

The children were dressing to crawl into bed

Not once ever kneeling or bowing a head.

And mom in her rocker, with baby on her lap

Was watching the late show while I took a nap.

When out of the east there arouse such a clatter

I sprang to my feet to see what was the matter.

Away to the window I flew like a flash

Tore open the shutters and threw up the sash.

When what to my wondering eyes should appear

But angels proclaiming that Jesus was here!

With a light like the sun sending forth a bright ray

I knew in a moment this must be THE DAY.

The light of His face made me cover my head

It was Jesus returning just as He said.

And though I possessed worldly wisdom and wealth

I cried when I saw Him in spite of myself.

In the Book of Life which He held in His hand

Was written the name of every saved man.

He spoke not a word as He searched for my name

When He said, “it’s not here,” my head hung in shame.

The people whose names have been written with love

He gathered to take to His Father above.

With those who were ready He rose without sound

While all the rest were left standing around.

I fell to my knees, but it was too late.

I had waited too long, and thus sealed my fate.

I stood and I cried as they rose out of sight

Oh, if I had been ready tonight.

In the words of this poem the meaning is clear

The coming of Jesus is drawing quite near.

There’s only one life and when comes the last call,

We’ll find that the Bible was true after all.

Today is the Day

No one knows when our last day on earth will come. But we all know for certain that it WILL come some day. Every one of us will spend eternity somewhere – and it’s our choice regarding Jesus that will determine where that is.

The Bible says in Romans 10:9-10 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

There is no special requirement or work to be done – Jesus already did all the work for us. We just have to believe. My prayer is that if you are not a believer, you will consider everything that Jesus did for you. He gave up His life so that you could gain yours.

Blessings,

Amy
