Making a Statement

Muslim women in the fashion industry are rare. But two Muslim women on a mission to save NYC’s Garment District by creating jobs and showcasing young designers? No one has heard that before, right?

But that is exactly what Benish Shah-Sardar and Uzma Kaleem are doing.

Over the course of a few years, they watched two friends (also Muslim) start a fashion design business, build it up, market it, and then have to close shop. This got them thinking about what it takes to make it in the fashion industry and the challenges young designers face in getting their work out. And that’s how Vicaire NY was born.
