Here is a video of me speaking at The Evangelical Network (TEN) national conference, being interviewed by radio host Tony Sweet. You can check out TEN’s website here and their YouTube Channels here and here. I really appreciate the President of TEN, Todd Ferrell, not only giving me the opportunity to be there with them, but also for being a friend. Much love. www.themarinfoundation.org Read more

Thanks for all of your great insights yesterday on what you believe is the Gospel! I loved reading them, and I generally like to think that the people that read this blog are at least 82.6% smarter than people who read any other blog 🙂 Maybe it’s just that the people who have thought about what the Gospel means are the only ones who commented, but man, preach those definitions my brothers and sisters! In the broader Christian world the word Gospel... Read more

What is My One Sentence Bible? 11-18-10: Jesus’ radical teachings show us how separated we actually are from living his reality for us, no matter how well intentioned we might be. Mark 10:35-45 A good leader brings together opposing parties before its irreconcilable. Mark 10:41-42a Well known Christian conferences, authors and teachers take note: A Jesus-minded person or institution of influence does not dangle their power in front of anyone to get what they want. They serve first and forever,... Read more

In April 2010 I heard a man I know and respect greatly, Scot McKnight, speak about his understanding of the Gospel. Scot is a no-joke theologian and someone that when he talks, people (and I) listen. His talk about the Gospel peaked my interest because I had never really thought deeply about what I believed the Gospel is. My whole life I hear Christian folks constantly talking all of the time about: preaching the Gospel teaching the Gospel spreading the Gospel presenting... Read more

What is My One Sentence Bible? 11-17-10: Cynicism does nothing but separate you from the Kingdom of Heaven. Mark 10:13-16 Jesus looked in love to even those he knew would never listen to him. Mark 10:17-22 Everyone needs to be validated in their experiences at some point. Mark 10:23-30a Where there is good, there is evil. Where there is the glory of God being lived, there is persecution as well. In this life there cannot be one without the other... Read more

Everytime I read the New Testament I see Jesus quoting the Old Testament quite a bit. As I learned in my Bible interpretation classes in seminary, parallel passages and repeat quotes are there to drive points home more directly. Maybe it’s just me, but for a while now I’ve wondered if Jesus quoted any one verse(s) more than others to really drive a certain point home? So what I did was go back and read all of Jesus’ words and... Read more

What is My One Sentence Bible? 11-16-10: A spirit oriented towards peace with others, in humbly striving to follow Jesus no matter what the cost, is always more important than anything mainstream tells you is of the utmost importance. Mark 9:42-50 Never turn down an opportunity to teach people willing to listen. Mark 10:1 Critics will always have their own version of a litmus test. But the only litmus test that matters will be the ability to follow the Lord’s... Read more

Recently there was a fascinating story breaking out of George Washington University’s (GWU) woman’s basketball team: One of their players, Kye Allums, now identifies as a transgender male. Here is the link to the story. I am always interested in college sports stories because, as some of you may know, I received an athletic scholarship to play Division I baseball in college. All I know is that I had a hard enough time with my teammates when I told them I was moving into Boystown with my best friends... Read more

What is My One Sentence Bible? 11-15-10: Leaders must understand that no matter how transparent they are with those under them, those under them will still, at times, be scared to ask questions. Mark 9:30-32 There is no single ‘right group’ of Christ followers who are able to do God’s work. Mark 9:38-39 ‘Whoever is not against us is for us’ does not suggest full alignment in all ways—it is, rather, dependent upon the base-level turning over of one’s life... Read more
