The amazing thing about how this is handled in the American press is that Israel forbids international press in Gaza. So stories like this leak out from, in this case, Red Crescent ambulance drivers. When the story gets published, believers in the Immaculate Conception of the state of Israel then a) point to official state happy talk from Israel and b) say, “The guy is a Red Crescent ambulance driver or covered by the NY Times or with the Red Cross or anyway he’s “Pro-Palestianian”. How can you tell? Because he criticizes Israel, reports horrific and massive civilian death in Gaza and does not recite only what the Israeli government tells the press (which is not allowed into Gaza) to recite.
Heads, Israel wins. Tails, Gazans lose. It’s a state of affairs that is only plausible to dogmatic believers in the Immaculate Conception of the State of Israel. Ordinary people look at it and smell a rat. And it will lead to nothing but grief for Israel and for the US as long as we continue to make excuses for it.
