One gets the sense that Newt’s Catholic formation is lacking

Brand new Catholic Newt Gingrich is off to a great start utilizing his new ecclesial home as a base for power politickin’ and culture war positioning, sez the guy who dumped his first wife while she was in the hospital reoovering from cancer (so he could immediately marry his girlfriend–the one he later dumped for new girlfriend #3):

“The Democratic Party has been the active instrument of breaking down traditional marriage.”

Newt: the initials STFU were made just for you.

For your penance, try reading St. Paul’s advice to Timothy, which says of new bishops (and others who would presume to pontificate, “He must not be a recent convert, or he may be puffed up with conceit and fall into the condemnation of the devil” (2 Timothy 3:6). Somewhat more appropriate for a new convert with your track record than, “The problem is my political opponents” would be something more like “I am the chief of sinners.” If you want to place blame for the destruction of the family, try the mirror, dude. Dems have huge problems, but you are not the Messenger. Get some humility. Your reception into the Church was not the moment when God gratefully accepted your willingness to trust him. It’s the moment when (in theory at least) you became a disciple of Jesus Christ and said, “Have mercy on me, a sinner!”
