The Pattern Plays out as Expected

Turns out that if you are willing to lie through your teeth about torture and war crimes, chances are good you will lie about more minor infringements on the common good as well:

The Bush administration built an unprecedented surveillance operation to pull in mountains of information far beyond the warrantless wiretapping previously acknowledged, a team of federal inspectors general reported Friday, questioning the legal basis for the effort but shielding almost all details on grounds they’re still too secret to reveal.

Note the last 13 words. What they mean is that powers gained by the Bush Adminstration under the influence of Unitary Executive mania will be tut-tutted by the Obama Adminstration–and retained.

The modern megastate is a roach motel. Rights go in, but they don’t come back out again. That’s why I was amazed by the folly of alleged “conservatives” who were quite willing to embrace salvation through Leviathan by any means necessary. And incredibly chicken-hearted capitulation. And *now* they have their undies in a bunch and are worried about giving the State too much power.
