… of the band “Emerson and Thoreau” sends along this little Chesterton-inspired ditty:

Child of My Age
(Nick Perry)

At this time I’ll proudly say
I am a Child of My Age
I have no truths
They change from day to day
Fads and fashions fill my mind
New philosophies I’ll subscribe to
And then reject when a newer one comes along

Progress is ever changing
I must not get behind
What use does the past have for one with such a modern mind?
Tell me all your beliefs and I’ll shoot them down with rage
A champion for advancement
I’m a Child of My Age

You must change or you must die
All the old ways have passed us by
And now we’re headed closer to a New Dawn of Thought

Sin and vice will be abolished
Never were there anyway
We must seek our own desires
Since we might not last the day
Especially the day when suicide is all the rage
I do what I’m told, say I think on my own
A Child of My Age

One day I’ll see you when you get with the times
We could have a rational meeting of the minds
But I would never let your rules or traditions be my cage
Until the day that I am dust: A Child of My Age

I’m impressed that you are playing with Emerson, Nick. I hadn’t heard about his breakup with Lake and Palmer. 🙂
