Proving once again that he is, in many ways, Bush 44 Obama nominates a careerist cipher who has “only written three law review articles, two short essays, and two book reviews”, all of them “lifeless, dull, and eminently forgettable“. Her great virtue in the eyes of our Ruling Class and of the Son of Man who so recently claimed the godlike power to kill anyone he chooses without arrest, evidence, trial or scrutiny of any kind?: “Nothing is a better fit for this White House than a blank slate, institution-loyal, seemingly principle-free careerist who spent the last 15 months as the Obama administration’s lawyer vigorously defending every one of his assertions of extremely broad executive authority“.
If that sounds like Harriet Miers, that’s because she is Harriet Miers, an undistinguished toady of raw executive power. I hope the GOP flattens her before she starts redistibuting free speech. But you never know with these guys. When the Obamans dress up everything in War on Terror speech the Right goes all melty and dreams of a happy police state after the triumph of the End to Evil Great Society abroad and gets all twitter-pated. My money is on her being confirmed. Hope I’m wrong.
