Unlike the damp-handed draft dodgers like Dick Cheney who order torture, Matthew Alexander actually served his country in the military and was tasked with the interrogation of prisoners. He did not, however, wet himself and authorize war crimes while conflating brutality with courage as cowards do. Instead, he rejects harsh interrogation techniques. Here’s an interview with him. Near the end of the interview the interviewer asks him about efficacy and the army interrogator points out that even if there are (very) rare occasions where torture “works”, there are lots of things we are capable of doing that are 100% effective that we nevertheless refuse to do because they’re immoral.
