It’s disgusting, of course, and the perps need to be jailed just as our perps do.

What’s fascinating to me, however, are the vengeance fantasies in the comboxes. Dreams of torturing the perps to death. One person wants to inject them with AIDS. Another “improves” on this with stuff that sounds like the fantasies of a doctor at Dachau: inject them with turpentine.

I think that people like this don’t really see the abuse of children as an occasion of moral outrage so much as a chance to vent their deep-seated hatred of Jews or Catholics (of whatever group the perp hails from). They don’t really care about justice for the victims. They just get off on the idea of murdering somebody they hate in a particularly cruel and gruesome way and see this particular crime as a way to indulge in that fantasy while winning the approval of their peers.
