A Prayer to God and Man

A Prayer to God and Man December 6, 2012

May God bless our troops by keeping them safe.  May man bless our troops by praying for them, telling them thank you, paying them as they richly deserve and not the shameful wages they often get, giving them and their families all the support they deserve and not the shameful neglect they often receive and, above all, bringing them home to their families.

I’ve long figured that the thing I most have reason to thank God for with respect to my military service was his denying me the opportunity to kill a fellow human being. Yes, He kept me safe, but more important He kept innocent Vietnamese safe from me, one of a horde of invading foreigners. I was even able to do a minor amount of good. None of us will get through life without dying but we can certainly hope, even plan, to get through life without committing homicide. I always pray to keep our troops safe from harm and that they do no harm to others.

Are the troops responsible to form and act upon their consciences?
