Nothing Says “Sanity”… December 11, 2015

…Like a Mock Mass Shooting on a College Campus in Support of the Cult of the Steel Phallus

So I guess that “too soon” thing only applies to people who want to try to prevent the next mass murder, not people who want to sell more guns.

Prayer is the answer December 10, 2015

It does not appear they chose the timing. They announced it on their Facebook page on November 27th. The San Bernardino murders took place December 2nd.

    • Joe

They can choose to delay it.

    • chezami

They could choose to call it off. But that would be sane.

This is a case where if you already hate the message, you will hate whatever means they choose to deliver it. How many times, growing up, did I see people do things that were considered in bad taste, or offensive, or vulgar and yet time and again we were told that we should get over it and realize the truth is what matters? Heck, it still goes on today. So as much as I, personally, would suggest they reschedule in light of recent events, I can’t say much. Not in a culture like ours, where this approach to getting our points across without any other consideration is par for the course. Sowing wind and reaping whirlwinds after all.

Prudence and circumstance may indeed urge one to arm oneself, but this cannot be the norm. A society in which this has become necessary is not one of liberty but of lawlessness.

“A society in which this has become necessary is not one of liberty but of lawlessness.”

      Well said.

If it was some kind of training/demonstration thing (it appears it was scheduled weeks BEFORE the attack) then prudence would suggest either canceling or delaying.

Didn’t G.K. Chesterton regularly carry a revolver (in addition to a 6″ blade knife and a sword in his walking stick ?

And then, you have really cool people offering things like this:

A weapon is not a phallus.

    • Stu

Yeah, that bit is more extreme rhetoric. If one is going to accept it, then perhaps all of the anti-gun proponents are then the cult of vagina?

  • Stu

This is a bit wacky at any time.

It’s better to practice what to do if a shooter attacks than to try to figure out how to respond when it’s the real thing. And then pray we don’t have to use our knowledge.

  • Yeah, that is pretty insensitive. I can’t speak for the prudence of delay. Who knows what they were put through before they were allowed to do this, and whether they could have any real expectation of being allowed to do it at a later date if they cancel.

But they also have a point. The thing that stops a shooting rampage is a person with a gun who confronts the shooter.

Finally, Freud says that fear of weapons is a symptom of sexual dysfunction, not willingness to justly carry and use them.
